Welcome to Epworth United Methodist Church!
We aspire to be a home for everyone seeking Jesus Christ and experiencing the movement of the Holy Spirit. As a family-friendly congregation with a rich and wonderful history, we warmly invite all who seek a spiritual connection.
Our church story began in 1851, intertwining the narratives of Trinity Church in Franktown, Northern Methodists who faced unwelcome shores, and Broadwater, which extended a hospitable embrace to Trinity into their church family. With Trinity in decline, it became a part of Broadwater Church in Willis Wharf.[i]
Originating from Hog Island, Broadwater Church thrived as a Southern Methodist congregation. When they welcomed the people of Trinity, they demonstrated radical hospitality by changing their name to Epworth. The name “Epworth” was chosen in honor of the hometown of John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church. It became the perfect name for this new church, which would be a home to countless future worshippers.
Our church has truly become a home for many seeking Christ’s love. Epworth serves as a reminder of our true home—the Kingdom of God. We are committed to growing God’s kingdom not only within our church but also through acts of service and compassion extended into our community.
